This fragment of Liao samite, compound twill weft-faced on both sides, has a light blue ground, and a pattern in yellow, white, red and green. The pattern is incomplete and only part of an animal (probably an elephant) can be seen, with a white body and three legs, one leg in blue, and a green saddle on its back. Weave structures: Inner warp: silk, untwisted, single, light brown, 20 ends/cm; Binding warp: silk, untwisted, single, green, 20 ends/cm; Weft: silk, untwisted, light blue for the ground, yellow, white, red and green for the pattern, 19 passes/cm. Weave structure: 1/2Z compound twill weft-faced on both sides.
