Plate, sloping sides, shallow well, pronounced foot-ring. Earthenware, covered entirely (except foot) with presumed tin glaze. In the centre is an oval shield of arms (possibly German): on a blue field a lion proper holding up piece of rope; crest, between two horns, a similar lion also holding rope. Surrounding the shield is scrolling mantling.
